Fundraising treats for a sweet Christmas party

Nunavut Department of Justice staff members Theo Tanoh, left, and Nabeha Hassen host their latest monthly bake sale in the foyer of the Sivummut Building in Iqaluit on Friday. Breads, cakes, cookies and pies were available for purchase throughout the morning and into the afternoon. Staff will hold another bake sale before the end of the year, Hassen said, to raise money for a staff Christmas party. (Photo by Daron Letts)

The whole thing doesn’t make sense. Paid government staff (paid from my tax dollars which arise from my work) selling items to the public (me) to raise money so they can have a party. Wouldn’t they each just pay for their own party. I don’t fundraise from the public to have a party!

And are they using public facilities during work hours to solicit the public so they, the worker-vendors can have a private party?

Why does the government staff need to have a sale
They are most paid staff in the working world in the Arctic
Can the workers not chip in for the Christmas party

Great prices and great bread and treats!

It’s too bad that pricing is so high in Nunavut that staff have to fundraise and still pay for a ticket to their Christmas Party. Nonetheless, great efforts by staff and great options for community members to get some bread and sweet treats!
