UPDATE: At around 4:45 a.m., Friday, Jan. 13, the City of Iqaluit issued a notice to residents saying THE CITY HAS SHUT DOWN IQALUIT due to a water main break at Inuksuk High School that occurred around midnight. The city said all non-essential services are closed and that all residents should not use water unless they have to. Residents are asked to listen to the radio for more information and to stand by. “The pipe break has resulted in the city losing more water than we can currently produce (million and a half litres per day),” Mayor Madeleine Redfern said on Twitter. Significant flooding has occurred between the high school and the breakwater because of the Inuksuk water main problem. Arif Sayani of the City of Iqaluit said at around 6:00 a.m. Jan. 12 that the city wasn’t producing water fast enough to keep up with demand and that only about two hours’ worth was left.
