RCMP say an Iqaluit man they’ve been investigating since last June in connection with suspected child sexual abuse and child exploitation material has been arrested in Quebec.

Daniel Legacy, 38, was located and arrested in Gatineau, Que., on Jan. 21 after a Canada-wide arrest warrant was issued Jan. 16, Nunavut RCMP said Friday in a news release.

Legacy is charged with one count each of possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material and accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

He was transported back to Iqaluit, the release said, where he is being held in custody. His next scheduled court appearance is March 3 in Iqaluit.

The investigation was carried out by the RCMP’s specialized investigation team, which includes the internet child exploitation unit, the release said.

I dont think he is “from” Iqaluit but rather from Quebec. So why say “Iqaluit man”?

Because lqalummiutaq. He lives in Iqaluit and has lived here for many years. This is his current home. He ran for city council at one point. When you live, work, pay taxes somewhere, and you are charged with a crime, that’s how you are identified. And it’s good to know, because it alerts people that may be able to contribute information to the investigation.
