Many adults, few young

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

A cold beginning to summer along the Ungava Bay coast means there are fewer young Canada geese this year. In fact, it’s the worst year among the past 12 for reproduction as many of the goose eggs froze in 2004.

This means nest spring hunters may have a harder time fooling geese into joining decoys as older geese are generally more savvy.

However, the good news is that the Canada goose population has never been higher and there are at least 176,000 birds that nest in Ungava Bay.
